AQA English Literature – Specification A
Exam Board: AQA
Studying A Level English Literature will open a wide range of career opportunities to you. Many employers look for potential employees with an A Level in English, as it shows that you have good communication skills. At degree level, you can choose to study English Lang/Lit or a whole range of courses which combine English with other subjects. Career paths open to you range from journalists to teachers to lawyers. English graduates can progress to a wide range of careers.
Assessment
Paper 1 (3 hours) worth 40%
Paper 2 (2.5hours) worth 40%
Non-Exam Assessment worth 20% - Comparative critical study of two texts, at least one of which must have been written pre-1900; One extended essay (2500 words) and a bibliography
Requirements
Our general entry requirements are that you will need a minimum of five Grade 5s or above in your GCSEs to study A-Levels including Maths & English.

- Atonement
- Pre-1900 anthology and Unseen poetry
- Othello an Paper 1 comparison skills
- Feminine Gospels and Unseen poetry
- Non-Examination Assessment and Paper 1 comparison skills
Year 12 MTP Love Through The Ages Introduction
This curriculum is due to start in the 2023/24 academic year.
In Year 13, students study the following topics:
- A Streetcar Named Desire
- The Handmaids Tale
- Unseen Prose/Revision
- Paper 2 Comparison Skills and Revision
- Non-Examination and Revision
- Non Examination Assessment: Theory and Independence
- Elements of Crime Writing
