Student Council

Meden Student Council

The student leadership group is a great way for students at Meden school to have invaluable experience in leading the school from a student perspective. The student leaders are given the support to run events and gain feedback from their peers around what they want to change around school. The skills and experience they develop through being involved in this, is unique and beneficial for their future.

Our students leaders are:

  • Student voice leaders
  • A role model for other students in school
  • Organisers of themed library events to encourage reading
  • Part of a student interview panel for new staff
  • Leaders of whole school council meetings
  • A lead voice for the student body, reporting to senior staff
  • Charity fundraisers

Improving Our School

The student leaders have working with Mr Smith to make the school a better place for all students. The student council have been involved in the following projects:

  • The installation of new outside benches for students to use at break and lunch time
  • Meeting Nottinghamshire County Council to improve the quality of food on offer in the canteen
  • The development of the newly refurbished toilets
  • The introduction of sporting activities during lunch time

Charity Work

The student leaders have been involved in many exciting charity events such as raising £585 for the Lashes Foundation at their cake sale and by selling Lashes Merchandise. This was an amazing result after hard work and planning. The student leaders were coached by McDonald's to help organise this alongside Mr Sylvester and Mr Byrne. The student council have raised money for the following charities over the past year:

  • Children In Need
  • Red Nose Day
  • Lashes Foundation
  • Warsop Foodbank
  • Royal British Legion
  • British Heart Foundation
  • Refugees of Ukraine

Prospective Staff Interviews

When teaching positions at our school become vacant, the Student Council will be asked to establish an interview panel to represent the students in the selection of a new teacher or support staff. The panel usually consists of representatives from each section of the school (KS3, KS4). Over the past few years, Student Council have been involved in the appointment of all new staff members at Meden.
