Business Studies

Business Studies is taught by Mrs Knight and Mr Hamer. It is offered in KS4 (Year 9 onwards) and KS5 (Year 12 onwards).

At KS4, Students study the OCR GCSE Business Studies course. They identify how businesses like Diesel and Tesco market and promote themselves, how they motivate their workers and how they ensure they make large profits.

Our current Yr 11's are the last cohort to follow the olde specification. Students are assessed at the end of Year 11. There are two examinations:

  • Controlled Assessment (25%)

‚ÄčThe new 9-1 GCSE course is being delivered to our year 10 students. There is no controlled assessment and is assessed via two terminal examinations. Both component papers contain multiple choice and data response questions:

Component 1: Business Activity, Marketing and People Component 2: Operations, finance, influences on business and the interdependent nature of business

At Key Stage 5, students can choose AQA AS and A2 Business courses. Areas studied include:

  1. Manager, Leaders & decision making
  2. Marketing
  3. Human Resources and the psychology of motivating workers
  4. Operational performance and how businesses like Peugeot manage production
  5. Financial Performance

Students are assessed over the two year course via terminal examinations. The A level comprises 3 papers, which draw upon theory from both Year 12 and Year 13. Each paper is worth 33.3%
