What is the purpose of Religious Studies at Meden School?

  • Students gain a better understanding of the people that live in our world
  • Students answer challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about God, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human.
  • Students have knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and world views, enabling them to develop their ideas, values and identity.
  • Studying RE should prepare our students for modern day life in Britain, by increasing awareness of the different religions and beliefs held by people living in Britain.
  • Students recognise the similarities and differences which exists within and between communities.
  • Students investigate and respond to questions posed by, and responses offered by some of the sources of wisdom found in religions and world views.
  • Students reflect on the impact of religions and world views on contemporary life locally, nationally and globally.
  • Students develop and explain their ideas about how beliefs and practices influence individuals and communities
  • Students express using their personal reflections and critical responses to questions and teachings about identity, diversity, meaning and value
  • Students have a better understanding, acceptance, respect and tolerance of groups similar to and different to themselves
  • Students are given the opportunity to discuss life’s big questions
  • Pupils should gain and deploy the skills needed to interpret and evaluate evidence, texts and sources of wisdom or authority.
  • Through the teaching of RE British Values will be actively promoted.
  • Pupils are made aware that within religious groups there are differences and are not taught to stereotype religious groups
