Big Read/ Reading Canon
THE BIG READ
Once a half term students will participate in a Big Read lesson instead of their normal curriculum to promote reading for pleasure, oracy and to use the texts to help challenge injustices in the world and do something about them.
The Big Read sessions are delivered in classroom settings with their class teacher and texts are differentiated according to reading ability.
Students are exposed to both fiction and non-fiction texts and have opportunities to use their oracy skills to debate and speak about the text they have read. These texts are linked to the big conversations and the personal development curriculum.

THE READING CANON
As a school Meden is fully committed to improving the reading of all our students while they are with us. We arrange our tutor period and timetable so that all students in year 7-9 are given the opportunity to read.
