CORE PE

Physical Education is a legal requirement in the National Curriculum and all students are expected to participate in every lesson so they can make the necessary progress in this subject. KS3 PE is an exciting opportunity to enjoy a range of sports and activities that build sequentially in challenge as students move through each year group.

Year 7

Develop students’ knowledge and understanding of rules, regulations, positions, problem solving and creativity in a wide range of sporting activities

Provide an opportunity for students to apply rules, regulations, positions, problem solving and creativity for the sport accurately and consistently in isolation and in competitive situations (performer, coach, official)

Year 8

Year 9

Develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the tactics, evaluating skills, decision making and compositional ideas needed for a wide range of sporting activities

Provide an opportunity for students to apply tactics, evaluating skills, decision making and compositional ideas for the sport accurately and consistently in isolation and in competitive situations (performer, coach, official)

Alongside the aim and focus for each year, the CORE PE curriculum also enables students to:

  • Develop a lifelong love of learning of sport through finding one physical activity that they can take part in and enjoy beyond school
  • Understand how sport can contribute to their physical, mental and social health and wellbeing through a well-being session linked to CORE PE
  • Develop their understanding of the sport further through involvement in extra-curricular clubs, sporting fixtures and links to local clubs (Mansfield Rugby Club, Mansfield Town FC, Welbeck FC, Meden Vale Rugby, Mansfield Giants, Welbeck Cricket Club, Mansfield Harriers and AC)
  • Develop an understanding of the sporting values that can be promoted through PE and how they contribute to a growth mind-set and outstanding ATL
  • Develop ambition through opportunities to engage in a supportive careers education so they can make informed decisions about their future in a sporting career (CNAT Sport Studies, GCSE PE, A Level PE, University Progression)

Kit/ Expectations

All students are expected to bring appropriate kit to all PE lessons. They should pay careful attention to the activities they will be participating in and ensure they have the correct kit for the lesson. Students will be reminded of the expectations for kit at the start of each new activity.

  • Royal Blue Meden Polo Shirt*
  • Royal Blue Zip Fleece Top* or Plain Black or Navy Zip/Hooded Top (with discreet logo)
  • Plain Black or Navy Shorts or Tracksuit Bottoms (with discreet logo)
  • Royal Blue Socks* or Plain White Sports Socks
  • Sports Trainers

*Items can be purchased through school as part of the Meden School Uniform

Recommended

  • Football/ Rugby Boots
  • Shin pads (Football and Hockey)
  • Mouth Guard (Rugby and Hockey)
  • Sports Leggings (Gymnastics, Dance and Trampolining only)

Except in the case of serious injury, all students are expected to come to PE lesson prepared to take part in some physical activity. Even if they have a minor ailment or illness, they should bring a note from home explaining this and still bring their kit to get changed and take part as a coach or official.

Students who fail to bring appropriate PE kit for their lesson will be provided with clean garments to ensure full participation in the lesson.
