NewsletterSafeguarding News April 2023

~ April 2023 ~

Safeguarding and Child Protection is such an important issue for our students that we want to share key information and advice with parents and carers so that we can all work together with the same aim of keeping the students of Meden school safe  at school and in the wider community.

Safeguarding relates to so many different areas of life at Meden School including  children’s physical health and safety, mental wellbeing, attendance, managing medical conditions, internet safety, substance misuse, bullying, the dangers of radicalisation, child sexual exploitation, gang culture, FGM, neglect, domestic violence, forced marriages, sex and relationships education, British Values and even road safety!

Whatever the situation we are determined to ensure that all our students supported, protected and educated to make positive choices to keep themselves and others safe

At Meden School we feel it is vital to work with our parents and with the high quality agencies that support schools and young people so that we can offer a safe environment that allows children to be aware of the risks they may face and how to respond to them safely.

One of the most important ways that we can promote safeguarding and ensure all our students are is through our continued drive to promote amazing attendance. School is the best place to learn, providing fantastic life choices, and it ensures our students are kept safe during school hours.

If you have any concerns relating to  safeguarding concerning a member of our school community you can contact a member of our DSL Team on the email below.

Personal Development is the main way that we   safeguard our students. Sessions are delivered by your child’s tutor during tutor. The purpose of the Personal Development curriculum is to ensure that our students are taught about the risks they face in our modern world and how they can keep themselves safe through positive action and choice. Students are given time to discuss and reflect on behaviours and situations that present a risk to them, so that they can identify the dangers they face.

Students will learn about engaging topics such as

  • Online Safety
  • Neglect
  • Healthy Relationships

The Personal Development curriculum is  specially planned to meet the needs of our students by Mr. M Sylvester and it responds to the needs of our students.
