Course Overview

Computer Science is a practical subject where students can apply the academic principles learned in the classroom to real-world systems. It’s an intensely creative subject that combines invention and excitement and can look at the natural world through a digital prism.

Course Type and Length

Linear - OCR exam board

AS/A2 Computer Science, 2 years Full Time

Assessment

AS/Y12, internally assessed through 2 written examinations 1hour 15minutes each. These account for 50% each.

A-Level/Y13, internally assessed through 2 written examinations 2hours 30minutes each. These account for 40% each. An internally assessed programming project counts for the remaining 20% of the overall mark.

Entry requirements

‘C’ grade in GCSE English (or equivalent).

‘B’ grade in GCSE Computer Science (or equivalent).

AS/A2 Level Computer Science can lead to a wide range of opportunities both in employment and Higher Education. Computer Science is a constantly changing subject which means that skills and opportunities are continually evolving. Career paths can include some of the following plus many more:
